Aosta is the capital of the autonomous region of Valle d’Aosta (Aosta Valley) and it is placed in a wonderful Alpine basin crowned by impressive mountains such as Monte Emilius (3559 metres), Becca di Viou (2856 metres) and Becca di Nona (3142 metres). A corner of the antique Rome in the Alps, an important example of Roman architecture in Northern Italy. The origins of this city date back to the Augusta Praetoria age, the Roman colony that has left many works as heritage. Aosta also has important medieval ruins, churches, castles and residences of landlords who, for centuries, contended for the control of the valley. The town can be the starting point for those adventurous visitors who desire to reach high peaks or for those who, in a short time, want to reach Switzerland and France borders. Actually, Mont Blanc and Great St. Bernard tunnels turn the city into a very important strategic joint from ancient times. The mountain is really on your doorstep thanks to a cableway that takes you from Aosta centre to Pila  It offers a skiing circuit for all levels.
